January Across Oregon

In eleven town hall meetings this past week, Senator Wyden heard from Oregonians on a variety of important issues including privacy and surveillance, timber policy, and the economy.  Ron held the first town halls in Jefferson, Deschutes, and Crook Counties. While in Bend, Senator Wyden dropped by the Stop ‘n Go and met with owner Renee Sibley.

Senator Wyden then headed to Salem and held his annual Marion County town hall, before heading back to Portland for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. There, Senator Wyden participated in a tribute to Dr. King held by the World Arts Foundation in Portland.  Afterwards, he joined Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith and the Urban League of Portland at a day of service event for packing personal care boxes for homeless and underserved youth.

The next week Ron heard from residents of WashingtonLinn (where West Albany High School students live-streamed the town hall), BentonLane, and Clackamas Counties. Between town halls, Ron joined Senator Merkley for a press conference on the importance of raising the federal minimum wage, met with community leaders in Washington County, and held a roundtable of fire and emergency officials working to make crude oil trains safer. He also paid tribute to fallen police officer Robert Libke and had the privilege of meeting Hillsboro resident, Holocaust survivor, author, and educator Alter Wiener.

After honoring both these heroes, Senator Wyden held his last two town halls of the week (but most certainly not the year!). One in Astoria – where the weather could not get any more beautiful – and one in Scappoose in Columbia County.
