Wyden statement on Bipartisan Gun Reform Bill

Sen. Wyden issued the following statement on the Senate’s test vote on a bipartisan bill to prevent suspected terrorists from buying guns.

“I have long supported the idea that someone who is on the terrorist watch list should not be able to buy a gun.  This bipartisan amendment is a commonsense measure to close the dangerous loophole that allows suspected terrorists to legally buy guns. Today’s vote demonstrated that a majority of the U.S. Senate is ready to take real steps to keep innocent Americans safe, by keeping guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists and criminals,” Wyden said.

“I am concerned that the latest version of this amendment contains new provisions regarding the use of secret evidence in U.S. courts.  I see no reason to give the government new authorities to obscure the use of secret evidence, and I’ll be working with my colleagues to address these provisions as this amendment moves forward.”
