Wyden Statement on Permanent Appointment of Vicki Christiansen as U.S. Forest Service Chief

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden today issued the following statement in response to today’s announcement that Vicki Christiansen will be the new U.S. Forest Service Chief:

“Vicki Christiansen understands full well the importance of leading the Forest Service into the 21st Century by implementing successful forest management authorities, such as stewardship contracting, in thoughtful and effective ways that help Oregonians and all residents in the West.  As a result, she earned the job as Chief of the US Forest Service.

Her permanent appointment as Chief is good news for Oregon because our state knows her as a proven ally in the work to bring balance and common sense to federal wildfire policy and forest management. I very much look forward to building on our work together so far to aggressively but collaboratively address the hazardous fuels backlog in the woods as part of a comprehensive long-term forest management strategy for our state and the West.”
